Just A Little While

Adventures of a wife and mother

Just Feeeze It!

imageI just love to freeze.  It has helped me save time, save money and waste less food.

Leftovers.  I freeze them so they will last longer, and will not feel like leftovers when served a week later.  Noodles can be frozen in a ziploc and then just warmed up under hot water in a strainer to serve.

Meals. Sometimes I make a double meal and just freeze half for a quick meal later.  It isn’t more work, and I have something to warm up instead of a pizza in a pinch.

Bread.  Especially when buying preservative free breads.  They store best in the freezer if they are not going to be eaten immediately.

Butter, broth, bananas.  I store butter safely in the freezer and keep one pound in a covered dish on the countertop that is soft and ready to spread.  Extra chicken broth stores conveniently in two cup Ball brand freezer containers with twist on lids (next to canning supplies in big stores).  Any bananas that manage to get overripe are just tossed onto the top shelf of our freezer until  I need them for banana bread.
Meats and Veggies.  Don’t forget the classics.  Save by buying extra meats and veggies on sale.  Frozen veggies are the next best to fresh.
