According to the Houston Museum of Natural Science web page:
“This stunning living exhibit showcases hundreds of live butterflies in a naturalistic rainforest setting. Home to exotic live butterflies, insects and plants, this walk-through rainforest environment is designed to be an interactive experience and is housed in a three-story glass structure.
Butterflies flutter among and occasionally land on the visitors. During a typical visit, one can expect to see approximately 50 or so of the world s largest and most colorful butterfly species represented by over 1,500 butterflies living in the Center.”

When my son and I went to the Cockrell Butterfly Center we entered close to closing and were so surprised to see the hands on games and learning activities inside. Next time we will be sure and allow extra time for that. We enjoyed the butterflies too. You never know what will spark an interest in a child. Once we saw all the stages of the butterfly in real life. My son and daughter in law even went there for there one year anniversary when they were still dating. Butterflies symbolize life after death in our group for bereaved parents – Compassionate Friends. A symbol of rebirth and transformation, butterflies always remind me of my own deceased grandson.
