Kamut Flour Bread For Bread Machine Wheat-Free Recipe – Food.com – 278776

Knowing myself, I chose to start my bread quest with a bread machine recipe that uses flour that I already keep in my pantry. Perhaps if I can master a bread machine bread, I can try prepping the dough in the machine and then baking in the oven for the ideal sandwich bread shape. Perhaps even easier, I may just cut my bread machine loaf into slices then half the slices for sandwiches.

Liberty’s Kids for a history lesson cartoon

On a rainy day, we love to watch Liberty’s Kids and accidentally learn some American history about the Revolutionary War.  Originally aired by PBS for kids ages 8-14, we have found them appropriate for the whole family, even the little ones.  They are reasonably priced if purchased used, and can be resold when the family has been completed them.

Quick and Easy Einkorn Sandwich Loaf | Jovial Foods Blog

As I am preparing French toast this morning, I am longing for a healthy homemade bread to use.  Going to try this this recipe soon. -Allison

Quick and Easy Einkorn Sandwich Loaf Here is a quick and easy sandwich loaf. This recipe is made free form and does not knead into a firm dough. The flour, yeast and water are mixed together in a large bowl to form a thick batter that rises directly in the loaf pan. You have only let the dough rise once and then bake, so it cuts down on the total time it takes to make your bread. It is easy to mix the dough with a wooden spoon and then use a stiff spatula to transfer the dough to the loaf pan. This recipe does not work well in a bread machine. Now, if you are looking for a firm dough that you can knead by hand or can use in a bread machine, simply reduce the amount of water to 1 1/3 cups of warm water for 4 cups of flour. The other ingredients remain the same. You will have then have to let the loaf rise for 90 minutes, punch down, form the loaf and then let rise 60 minutes again before baking or use your bread machine.INGREDIENTS4 cups einkorn flour not sifted2 ¼ cups warm water1 tbsp. sugar1 ½ tsp. active dry yeast1 ¼ tsp. sea saltINSTRUCTIONSIn a large ceramic mixing bowl, add warm water, yeast and sugar and let stand for 5-10 minutes.Stir in salt with a large wooden spoon, then add flour one cup at a time while mixing.Using a stiff spatula and a wooden spoon, continue mixing and cleaning the sides of the bowl until all of the flour in absorbed by the water.Oil a loaf pan. Add the batter and cover with plastic wrap.Let rise until the dough reaches to top edges of the loaf pan, but be careful. We let this loaf rise for just 30 minutes. Depending on the weather and the yeast, it can take up to two hours. We recommend trying 1 hour to start and keep watching but do not exceed 2 hours.Bake for 40 minutes at 400°F preheated oven. Remove from pan and let cool for a few hours on a baking rack before slicing.

10 Ways to Spring Clean GMOs Out of Your Home

April 16, 2012

You may already realize how critical a non-GMO diet is to the health of our planet—if so, good for you! Or you may be new to this issue and just starting to learn about all of the ways that genetically modified organisms (GMOs) threaten our soil, water, animals, insects and ecosystem at large. Either way, here at the Non-GMO Project we want to help you deepen your commitment to a non-GMO future. That’s why we created the Non-GMO Challenge for Earth Month. The Challenge is an action-oriented platform that offers education, inspiration and rewards for choosing non-GMO, whether it’s for one meal or for the entire month. Over the next few days we’ll be sharing some of the ways that Non-GMO Project staff are stepping up for the Non-GMO Challenge. We hope you’ll join us!

From Courtney Pineau, Communications Manager:

In our household, spring cleaning is often inspired by those first days of springtime sun when I discover the cobwebs and dust bunnies that have been hiding in the shadows all winter. It’s amazing what a little light can expose. Spring cleaning our diets is the same way–when you look a little closer you often find that your food contains unwanted GMO ingredients. I hope these sprin

Pastured Eggs – LocalHarvest

Pastured EggsGrass-fed/pastured hens are raised on pasture, as opposed to being kept in confinement and fed primarily grains. Eggs from pastured hens contain up to 20 times more healthy omega-3 fatty acids than those their less fortunate cousins, factory hens.Pastured hens diets are naturally complemented with bugs, earthworms, and other such critters that give their eggs a huge nutritious oomph. Although not necessarilly organic, pastured hens are usually much healthier and happier than their space-restricted and antibiotic-pumped industrial cousins.Pasturing is the traditional method of raising egg-laying hens and other poultry. It is ecologically sustainable, humane, and produces the tastiest, most nutritious eggs.Pastured eggs also have 10 percent less fat, 40 percent more vitamin A, and 34 percent less cholesterol than eggs obtained from factory farms.

Our laying hens are pastured and provided non-GMO Organic Layer feed, oyster shell, and grit. -Allison

Juice Plus alternative at Sam’s Club

Sam’s club is now carrying Juice Festive from Natrol.  At $19.83 for a two month supply this is a must try for our family.  I have only seen favorable reviews, and most from former Juice Plus users.  I would love to add a real food supplement to our diet.  Too bad I don’t see this in gummies.  With capsules its adults only for now in this house.  Check out the Amazon reviews HERE.

Azure Standard- new chicken feed

Azure standard is now offering a new brand of chicken feed, and my girls love it.  The price is much better than our previous product from Coyote Creek Farm (still a great product) and appears to produce equally great eggs.

How To Store Fresh Eggs

This article covers a wide range of storage methods.  Looks like my fridge is still my friend after all.- Allison

The very best way weve found to stash eggs away for long-term storage is in a sealed container at a temperature of 35° to 40°F. Their whites may become somewhat runny looking over a period of time, buteven after seven months—the cackleberries stored in this manner smell good, taste good, have a good texture, and—in short—seem “almost fresh”.
