Supermodel Smiles with Damon Braces

Well, one of my children required braces because of severe crowding and having teeth that shifted when a baby tooth was pulled early.  She had severe damage to her baby teeth from acid reflux before going on the GAPS diet.  Not a problem anymore, but MyoBrace is not effective if teeth are pulled prematurely.

I wanted her to have a big supermodel smile and for her overbite and crowding to be corrected.  I had her evaluated (age 9) at a traditional orthodontist and a Damon system orthodontist.  The traditional orthodontist wanted to use two stages of braces.  The first stage with a lip bumper and a palate expander, and later a second stage of braces for alignment of all the adult teeth.  The Damon system orthodontist wanted to use a lip bumper without braces, then a Herbst appliance  to extend the lower jaw (correct the overbite), and then align with braces.

After seeing pictures of the results from both doctors it was clear.  I wanted the Damon system.

  • No teeth pulled
  • Fuller smiles
  • Less time in braces
  • No elastic ties, easier to clean.
  • Fewer appointments.

Already I am impressed with the changes in my daughter’s face and teeth after two years with a lip bumper (very easy to keep clean and wear).  She will be wearing the Herbst in a month.  We use Dr. Anderson in Katy 281-578-0008 (the Scholtens sent you), and there is a nationwide list of providers on the Damon braces website.

Straight teeth without braces… Myobrace

A good friend introduced me to Myobrace at just the right time (treatment starts as early as 6 years old).  What a wonderful alternative to braces for many children.  Kids just wear what looks like a sports mouth guard while they sleep and an hour or two during the day, and the teeth align correctly.  It is surprisingly easy for the kids to get used to sleeping with the MyoBrace.  At first it would fall out when they fell asleep, but a few nights of putting it back in while the kids were half asleep was all it took to get them used to it.   Two of my kids have had marvelous results with this system.  You can read all about it on the MyoBrace web site HERE.  Our MyoBrace dentist is Dr. Tim Gutierrez, DDS at Katy Family Dentists (832) 200-1273 (the Scholtens sent you), and there are a list of providers on the MyoBrace web site.

Organic face care for tweens and teens.

Avalon Organics Refreshing Cleansing Gel

Nothing makes me read labels like my children.  My oldest daughter is a tween and we needed to start a regular skin care routine, so I started searching for a solution.  After evaluating a number of orgainic products we tried Avalon organics skin care line.  It was affordable, had good reviews, and came in fragrances we liked (citrus or lavender).  For my daughter it is once a day wash with Avalon cleansing gel and moisturize with coconut oil (or the Avalon Oil Free Moisturizer).

I ordered from Vitacost.com.  Use this link and get $10 off an order of $30.  They have the full line of products.  Walmart in Katy, TX also carries the citrus cent products, as well as HEB.

Veri Organic Low-Calorie Cola Review

I love cola, but not the ingredients. Veri has a place in my refridgerator now. It tastes like a lightly sweetened cola with only the slightest Stevia aftertaste- hardly noticeable. 60 calories. ( purchased at HEB Katy)

Ingredients: sparkling water, organic cane sugar, organic lemon juice, organic caramel color, organic flavors, and organic stevia leaf extract.

Non-GMO, Organic

I think I will try their other flavors soon.

Natural Moisturizing Liquid Hand Soap Recipe

Natural hand soap can be hard to find and rather expensive. Make your own quickly, and add a couple drops of essential oil to make it even better.

Recipe:
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup organic Castile soap (scented or unscented)
1 T organic Sunflower oil (moisturizing)
2-4 drops of your favorite essential oil.

Combine ingredients in the soap pump. Shake gently to mix and enjoy. Makes 1 hand pump of liquid soap.

Warning:  Very liquid.  May shoot out and get you from some dispensers.

Essential Oil ideas: buy from me  HERE

Peppermint (refreshing)

Wild Orange or Lemon (joyful)

On Guard (immune supporting)

Math Time Questions

For some reason, the kids seem to have a lot of irrelevant questions during math time. To stop this clever stalling tactic, I asked the kids to write down their questions for discussion after math. It took several reminders, but we finished math in record speed.

Kindles for Kids

We have a tradition in our family to award our early readers with a Kindle once they read three chapter books (like Encyclopedia Brown, or Toad and Frog). I find this is a good time to introduce them to all kinds of classics available for free and ebooks from the library. The novelty also helps them forget how challenging the new material is. The Kindle Keyboard is a good option for us because it has a MP3 player for audiobooks and music. RadioShack has kids headphones that will not allow the volume to harm their ears.

Resolving sibling conflict

I have found this scripture referenced “Brother Offended Checklist” very helpful for teaching the kid to resolve disputes in a Christ like manner.  We walk to the tack board when there is a conflict. I love the step by step instructions teaching them to search their own hearts and how to reconcile with forgiveness.
